Alice H. Boulton, 85
January 17, 2017
Alice Haus Boulton, age 85, passed away January 17, 2017 surrounded by family at Country Meadows of Lancaster. Born June 9, 1931, Alice was the daughter of the late John C. and Catherine C. Haus. Alice was pre-deceased by her brother, John C. Haus, Jr. and Thomas E. Boulton, her husband of 43 year, who died in 1996.
Alice was a 1949 graduate of McCaskey High School and a 1952 graduate of the Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing. After marrying in 1953, Alice accompanied Tom to various naval air station posts, usually working in an obstetrics practice. After completing his naval service, they returned to Lancaster. Alice then worked as a registered nurse, including the Duke Street Nursing Home and the Visiting Nurse Association (home health). Alice also worked for the Cleft Palate Clinic, helping to establish genealogies of Amish families to investigate the incidence of cleft palate in the Amish community. She then worked as a medical caseworker in the Lancaster County Assistance Office; later commuting to Harrisburg to work in the Office of Quality Assurance and the Office of Fraud, Abuse, Investigation and Recovery. After retiring, she was employed by the Manheim Auto Auction, driving fancy sports cars because she was one of a few employees who knew how to drive a stick shift.
Alice loved all her grandchildren, and especially baking Christmas cookies with them. She and Tom were able to travel to the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, Hawaii and Arizona. After Tom’s death she really got the travel bug, visiting Hong Kong, Thailand, California, England, Scotland and Egypt. She had quite a green thumb and planted gardens around her fishpond in the backyard.
Alice is survived by her four children: Leslie Best (John Rarig), Orrtanna; Michael Boulton (Bonni), Lititz; Catherine Byrnes (Thomas), Syracuse, NY; Christina Frey (Brian), York. Eight grandchildren: Valerie, Olivia and Sean Boulton; Ian, Bethany and Tim Byrnes; Kathryn and Clayton Frey, as well as three nieces: Ann Hergenrother, Nikki Scott and Lisa Sheraw.
A viewing will be held from 6-8PM, Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11AM, Thursday, January 26, 2017, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. Interment will follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Southcentral Pennsylvania Food Bank at https://www.centralpafoodbank.org/Donate/Donate-Online or the Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 South Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603. The family would also like to thank the staff of Country Meadows for their compassionate and professional care, as well as Grane Hospice.

Condolences to the Family

From Ken Glatz, Jody Hause Glatz’s husband, John’s oldest daughter.
I would like to wish your family my deepest condolences regarding Alice’s passing. I am sorry I was not able to attend the services in order to express my feelings in person, but I found out too late to be able to make it. Through out the years I heard so much about Alice from Jack and Joan. It is too bad our familes grew so far apart.
I live in Saline, Mi and have three kid, Kristen 40, Dana 38 who has two kids, and Adam 34 who has twins, a boy and girl. The boy, Henry, has Jody’s red hair.
Jody has been gone now almost 8 years. It has been vey hard, but things do get easier with time.
Many years have passed, and we have all lost a lot. I hope the best for your family.
Regards,
Ken Glatz

Alice was a treasured co worker who livened our work in DPW’s OFAIR from 1985 to 1991. Good person wih a smile and intellect to go with it. Later in 1990-91 she was one of my employees as we began developing a unique approach to statewide system’s development and implementation. She remained a team player with key ideas and unique insights. She will be missed. May she rest in peace. Always regard her as a good friend and trusted co worker.

Very sorry to hear of Alice’s passing. She was a lovely woman. I had the joy of working with her at the 2010 Census. She always had a smile and an interesting story. I know that she loved her family and was so proud of all her grandchildren. It was wonderful getting to know her.
