Albert A. Birunas, 79
Albert A. Birunas, 79, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Donaldson, PA he was the son of the late Anthony and Domicella (Stasuinas) Birunas . He was married to Judith (Wolfgang) Birunas for over 59 years.
Al was a machinist for Federal Mogul BCA for 40 years and had most recently worked at the Manheim Auto Auction for 13 years. Known to many as “Albe” or “Whitey” he was active in sports and played minor league baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies team. Al was active in the industrial league playing softball and bowling. He also participated in the Senior Games for many years and was a member of the Duffer’s Club in golf. An avid hunter he enjoyed hunting in Schulykill County. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing and traveling. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife Judy are 3 children, Virginia A., wife of Melvin Schnupp, of Clarendon, Ontario, Canada, Larry A., husband of Kerri Birunas, of Lancaster, Craig A., husband of Linda Birunas; 2 sisters, Adella Saltzman, of Good Spring, PA, Frances Knapczyk, of Lancaster; 6 grandchildren, Brandt, Kimberly, Erin, Corey, Lindsay, David; 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11AM on Thursday, August 16, 2012 from St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA with Msgr. Richard A. Youtz as Celebrant. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received from 10-11AM at church on Thursday.
