Akemi Nakamura Derr, 86

Akemi Nakamura Derr, 86, of Lancaster, PA and formerly of Myerstown, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Born in Yahata Shi Fukuoka, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Takeji and Tsueuko (Ikemoto) Nakamura. She was married 27 years to her husband Robert L. Derr, Sr. prior to his passing in 1995.
Akemi had a passion for cooking, especially Japanese food. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Japanese Club of Lancaster.
Akemi is survived by her 4 children: Hiroshi Nakamura (Akemi), Trudy Mika Root (Harold III), Stephanie Bailey (fiancée Fred Odell), and Robert L. Derr, Jr.; 5 grandchildren: Harold Root IV, Meka Eckert (Timothy), Aurora and Bryanah Bailey, and Eri Nakamura-Matsui (Hiroshi); 2 great-grandchildren: Edward Eckert and Hinata Matsui; and siblings Takeyuki Nakamura, Mariko Nagata, Misuzu Okamoto, Mitoshi Fukunaga. She was preceded in death by her sister Minako Nakamura.

She was a great lady I always loved talking to her at Jaycee events and when we visited her at home. It was always nice to see her smiling face walking in Myerstown, she would always stop and talk for awhile. We will miss her.

Akemi was a loving wife and mother. It was a privilege to know her and her kind ways. She was a great cook and enjoyed taking care of her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. Jeanie
