Adele Adora (Hill) Reed, 86
April 26, 1938 - January 20, 2025
Adele Adora (Hill) Reed, a beloved mother, devoted homemaker, and passionate music enthusiast, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on April 26, 1938, Adele lived a life filled with purpose and love, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
Adele was a Supervisor at Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), where she dedicated over 20 years of service before retiring in 2000. Her commitment to her work was paralleled only by her devotion to her family, which remained at the center of her life. She was a nurturing mother to her four children: Frederick M. Reed Jr., John Reed, Andrea Ackah and Allison Reed, whose lives she enriched with her unwavering love and support.
Adele majored in Music Education at Delaware State University. As an ardent lover of music, she delighted in sharing her voice within the Lancaster community. She sang independently and in various local choirs. She loved opera and she was always in search of “A Good Singer.”
Being an avid gardener, Adele found great joy and solace in nurturing plants. Growing up as a member of Bethel AME Church, where she sang in the Junior Choir, her spirituality guided her through life, and she imparted these values to her family. Adele’s heart swelled with joy during family gatherings, where laughter and love flourished. She was always hospitable while welcoming others into her home. Her willingness to serve and sacrifice for the comfort of others was unparalleled.
Adele is survived by her children, John Reed of Virginia, Andrea Ackah of Harrisburg, Allison Reed of Delaware, and grandchildren, Sena & Sage Ackah, a great-grandson, Sire R. Ackah, her sisters, Doris H. Johnson of Lancaster and Margaret M. Hill of Florida, as well as a host of extended family. She was preceded in passing by her parents John S.S. Hill Sr. and Emma D. (Wilson) Hill, her husband Frederick M. Reed, Sr., their son, Frederick M. Reed, Jr., and siblings, Elizabeth Ann Boyer, Charles F. Hill, and John S.S. Hill Jr.
