Kenneth L. ” Gordy” Gordon, Sr., 78
December 03, 2024
Kenneth L. “Gordy” Gordon, Sr., 78, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 in Agusta, Georgia.
Born and raised in New York, Gordy later made Lancaster his home, where he became a beloved figure in the community.
For over 30 years, Gordy served as a dedicated correctional officer at the Lancaster County Prison, leaving a lasting legacy of professionalism and integrity. Known by many names – Kenny, Gordy, Gorgeous Gordy (a nickname he earned from the ladies), but most fondly as Pop Pop – he earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Gordy was a family-oriented man who adored his grandchildren and cherished spending time with them. He was a father but also a mentor to many other in the community. His passion for guiding the next generation was evident through his active involvement in their lives, encouraging them to engage in extracurricular activities, teaching them about finances, and instilling valuable lifelong lessons. A generous spirit, Gordy contributed to several causes, including donations to the Sioux Native American community to support their education.
In his free time, Gordy was an avid racquetball player and a proud member of the Lancaster Racquetball Club, where he enjoyed both the game and the friendships. A good day for Gordy often involved a cup of Turkey Hill coffee, a ride in his BMW, listening to one of his favorite artists, Boney James, and a visit to Costco. Gordy was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to turn nothing into something. His wisdom, love, and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Kenneth Gordon, Jr., Kacey Wynn, and Krystal Lawton; his siblings, Stanley Gordon, Anthony Gordon, Patricia Gordon, Evelyn, wife of David Cameron, and Yvette, wife of Ernie McClain; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Minor and Evelyn Gordon; his mother, Florence Johnson; his daughter, Yvette Gordon; his siblings, Keith Johnson, Michael Gordon, Yvonne Gordon, and Kirk Gordon; and his grandson, Kylen Wynn.
A celebration of Gordy’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 beginning at 2:30PM at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584.

Back in the 90’s I did sick call weekly at LCP as a doctor. If Kenny was assigned to us I knew we would have a great day, because he kept order with grace and humor. Once when we passed a cell with a really nasty dude ready to throw something nasty on me as we passed. Kenny spotted the ugly intent, and with an authoritative voice stopped him in his tracks. Kenny always took care of us. He was one of a kind.

Our deepest condolences and prayers to Ken’s family. I worked at the jail with Kenny for three decades. Always a reliable officer and nice person. Respected by staff and inmates, seldom any problems in his assigned unit, always a sunny hello. I greatly appreciated Kenny’s sense of humor and was amazed at the foot speed he had for his age when we played Rec League football together. Rest in Peace Kenny G. GOD Bless. BOB BODNAR
