Christopher M. McCann, 43
October 14, 2023
Christopher M. McCann, 43, of Lancaster, succumbed to injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident, on October 14, 2023. Born in Reading, he was the son of Michael J. Sr. and Deborah L. McCann. He would’ve celebrated 17 years of marriage, memories, and laughs with Roberta (Belock) McCann on October 21.
Serving others was Chris’ calling in life. In November 1998, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He frequently shared of his time and was proud to be one of the first troops deployed to Iraq after 9/11. He would continue to serve until November of 2003, when he was honorably discharged with a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and the rank of Sargeant. A 10-year veteran of the Lancaster Bureau of Fire, he served as 2nd driver of C-Platoon Engine Company 1. In his years he held many positions and took advantage of learning and applying himself to all aspects of fire and rescue.
Chris enjoyed basic things in life including spending time with family at their cabin in Tioga County, where he would frequently explore and appreciate the landscape around him. He also considered himself a connoisseur of beers and loved visiting local breweries. He enjoyed sitting outdoors with Roberta and friends by a fire enjoying a cold beer and listening to music. He loved to cook and enjoyed trying new foods and flavors. Ultimately, he loved people and wanted to have a good conversation and good times. People and pets gravitated toward his warmth and laughter. He was also a graduate of Albright College and a member of Elks Lodge 134.
His memory will live on in all who knew and loved Chris especially his wife Roberta; parents; siblings, Michael J. McCann Jr., husband of Sheila of Hamburg, Michelle A. Monzo of Pottstown, and Christina N., wife of Matthew Wehr of Bernville; nieces and nephews, Megan, Ashley, Dylan, Michael III, Kaleb, Brandon, and Tyler; great nieces, Ava and Aria; his paternal grandmother, Dorothy McCann; aunts and uncles, as well as the brother and sisterhood of the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire and IAFF Local 319. I never met Chris, but I worked with his wife. This is an absolutely tragic outcome and my heart breaks for Chris’s family. The love between you and Roberta was evident by the way she spoke about you and smiled when she said your name. Fair winds and following seas.

I’m extremely sorry to hear of such a tragedy. Chris and I went to the same high school and I remember how kind of a person he always was. Throughout high school and after he was always there to lend a hand to a friend. I kind of lost touch with him because life just does that to us sometimes. I have great memories having a beer and good times with him at the Eagle in Bernville. My deepest sympathies go out to his family. The world is a lesser place without him.
Chris, you’ll be missed, but we will meet again someday.

Chris was a wonderful man. I love the memories I have of Chris. That I was able to share some of them with him makes me feel honored. It was remembered that he was a kind man who was always prepared to go above and beyond to assist others when necessary. It was fantastic that he made a professional decision that suited his personality. His humorous manner and charisma could light up a room. His selflessness was demonstrated by his carelessness and remarkable ability to converse with others and learn about them. Undoubtedly, Chris will be missed. My deepest sympathies are with the family.
