IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Winifred "Winnie"
R. Rumble
February 17, 2012
Winifred "Winnie" R. Rumble, 82, died Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Glen at Willow Valley, Willow Street, PA. Born and raised in Swarthmore, she was the daughter of the late Walter S. and Emily Wagner Rumble. Winnie graduated from Swarthmore High School in 1947 and the Philadelphia College of Art in 1951.
Winnie has painted and been a part of the art world since childhood. She painted many children and adults in her home in one sitting, at Wanamakers in Wilmington, and other stores and events. Using puppets to entertain the children, she was widely known for her fast study pastel likenesses which can be found in literally thousands of homes. Winnie also worked at Springer's Homemade Ice Cream in Stone Harbor, NJ for 15 years, drawing customers while they waited for their cones. For 25 years she painted many subjects at the Devon Horse Show.
An ardent traveler both in the U.S. and abroad, Winnie painted many landscapes that spanned Greece, Yugoslavia and the Amish Country, and often times included her love for wildlife. Her commissions included large oil paintings, such as her portrait of Judge Joseph de Furia that is displayed at the Bar Association building in Media.
Winnie was also an award winning member of the Delaware State Pistol Club and the Delaware County Camera Club. A champion skier, she enjoyed competing with the Buck Ridge Ski Club, as well as skiing throughout Europe.
Surviving are her sister Elisabeth "Betty", wife of Jerry Jackson of Rydal, PA, three nieces: Helen Jackson of Brooklyn, NY, Carol Rupert of Birdsboro, PA, and Judy Alexander of Jenkintown, PA, and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 AM Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Old York and Vista Roads, Jenkintown, PA 19046. To send the family online condolences, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com. Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 717-560-5100
