William G. "Bill" Wilson, 76, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Mount Joy, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center.
He was the devoted husband of Kathy (Ditzler) Wilson, with whom he shared 28 beautiful years of marriage.
Born in 1949 in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, Bill was the son of the late Henry S. Wilson, Jr. and Veda M. (Vaughn) Wilson. He proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy, earning the National Defense Service Medal, and four years in the Navy Reserves. His time in the service instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, camaraderie, and dedication that carried through the rest of his life.
Bill worked for more than 30 years at Armstrong World Industries as a proud member of the United Steelworkers of America, District #110, Local #285. After retiring, he spent over a decade as a driver for the Manheim Auto Auction, where he enjoyed getting to drive all kinds of vehicles. He looked forward to monthly breakfasts with his auction buddies as well as monthly breakfasts with his longtime Armstrong friends.
Bill found joy in simple pleasures like music, watching movies and television, the company of his pets, and the wildlife at his home-including deer, hummingbirds, and wild turkeys. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would greet each of them with a big smile and he always said "Bring 'em on!"
Those who knew him will remember Bill as an all-around great man who opened his heart and home to a large, blended family. He treated every child and grandchild as his own and never had a harsh word to say about anyone.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Shawn Wilson and Billy Wilson; step-son Christopher Axe (Stephanie McDaniels); step-daughter Kelly Halbleib (Jeff); grandchildren Brittany, Skylar, Chelsea, CJ, Kerstin, Kyle, Ethan, Connor, Makayla, Christopher and Andrew; great-grandchildren Troy, Rylie, Layla, Jackson, Halle, Lukas, and Blake; as well as his siblings Nancy Wilson, Sharon Garris, Allen Wilson, and Kelly Wilson, and 18 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Laura Hanna, Dorothy Wilson, James Wilson, and Ron Wilson.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Manheim, Pennsylvania. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
