William L. Seigford, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
He was the husband of Patricia E. Randall Seigford, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage last November 17th. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William W., Jr. and Doris E. Slack Seigford.
Bill had been employed by the former Pennsylvania Railroad from 1959 and then Penn Central Railroad until 1976, eventually retiring in 1996 from Conrail, with a career in sales and marketing.
He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church of Lancaster.
A proud US Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as a SP3 in the Transportation Corps and Light Weapons Corps. in Korea, and then in the Army Reserves until 1962.
Bill was a huge railroad history fan, being a member of National Railroad Historical Society in Harrisburg and the TCA, with a keen interest in PRR as both his parents had worked for PRR as well. He spent many hours at the Strasburg Railroad and he used his love of photography to take photos of historical railroad sites such as the Horseshoe Curve. He was also a member the Korean War Veterans Association and the Lancaster County Post Card Club.
In addition to his wife, Pat, he is survived by his son: Mark W. Seigford and daughter: Melanie A. married to Mark D, Burkholder, both of Lancaster; his grandchildren: Hilary A. Burkholder of Manayunk, and Mitchell E. Burkholder of Lancaster; and his sister, Patricia C. married to Sterling Leathery of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew H. Seigford in 2022.
Friends will be received by Bill's family on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA ,with the Memorial Service to follow at 11AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to the Korean War Veterans Assn., 3 Black Skimmer St., Beaufort, SC 29907 kwva.us .
