Papavasilion

William J. Papavasilion, 80, of Lancaster passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at LGH. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John and Aspasia (Fournaris) Papavasilion. He was married to Lois "Ricki" Papavasilion for over 55 years. He was a 1953 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School where he was active in sports and lettered in football. He later graduated in 1957 from Millersville University with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and a Master's degree in Guidance counseling. William worked from 1961 until his retirement in 1988 as an English and German teacher at J.P. McCaskey High School. During summers away from teaching he enjoyed commercial painting with fellow teachers for over 40 years. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church where he served in of the Order of the AHEPA, Red Rose Chapter #71 of Lancaster. William enjoyed playing poker, horse racing and going to Penn National. William proudly served his country in the US Army as a Specialist Fourth Class from 1957-1959 while stationed in Germany. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John W. Papavasilion husband of Tara M. of Washington Boro, PA, a daughter, Victoria A. wife of Michael Lowe of Lititz; Four grandchildren, Cory, Shauna, William, Suzie and his brother, Thomas J. Papavasilion husband of Vasso of Landisville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Papavasilion. A Viewing will be held from 6-8PM on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with a Trisagon to follow at 8PM with The Rev. Alexander Goussetis and a second viewing held on Friday from 10-11AM at the funeral home with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM with Rev. David D. Allen officiating. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in William's memory may be made to the Humane League of Lancaster Co., 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
