William E. Circe, 90, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at his residence. He was the husband of Frances E. Slattery Circe, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage this past December 30th. Born in North Adams, MA, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mary Alice King Circe. William had worked for the RCA Corporation in the Personnel and Human Resources Department at locations in New Jersey, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, including Lancaster—where he retired in 1987. He completed his undergraduate work at St. Anslem College, and earned his Master's Degree in Labor and Economics from Fordham University in 1952. A World War II veteran, William enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, first being assigned to the submarine service. He was transferred to the surface fleet where he participated in the invasion of Normandy and Anzio. He then served in the Pacific, surviving his ship being torpedoed and sunk, eventually serving in the occupation of Japan. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the former St. Francis Catholic Church in North Adams. In addition to his wife, Frances, he is survived by his children: William E. (Pauline) Circe of Morganville, NJ, Mary E. Circe of Lancaster, Ellen C. Fisher of Lancaster, Patricia A. (Howard ) Caskey of Canfield, OH, Thomas J. (Patricia) Circe of Sugar Hill, GA, and James M. (Kim) Circe of West Chester; his 9 grandchildren: D.C., Peter, Elizabeth, Laura, Molly, Bailey, Delaney, Morgan, and Mike; his sister Mary E. "Betty" Mahar of North Adams, MA and his brother, Robert J. Circe of California. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Donald W. Fisher, and his grandson, Timothy P. Caskey. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 6-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA. Friends may call again on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 10-11AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11AM. Interment will be at a later date, in North Adams, MA, at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in William's memory to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at the above address, or to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
