William F. "Bill" Paes, III, 83, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at Mennonite Homes, Sunday, March 10, 2019. Born in Lancaster, Bill was the son of the late William F. Paes, Jr. and Martha (Rineer) Paes Herr. Bill was the husband of the late Betty Lou (Frankford) Paes who died in 1996.
Bill was a 1953 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. He retired from the County of Lancaster as a voting machine technician after 46 years.
Bill belonged to Boehm's United Methodist Church. He was a Free Mason and a member of the Charles M. Howell Lodge No. 496. He was a 50-year member of the Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Lancaster Forest No. 27; and the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Lancaster, where he was known as "Scarecrow."
Bill loved to listen to both country and blue grass music. He belonged to the Lancaster County Corvette Club and proud owner of his own Corvette. Bill was an avid NASCAR racing fan. He attended the annual Free States event, driving his Corvette on the board walk in Ocean City, MD. Bill was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees.
Bill is survived by his longtime companion and fiancé, Alice Peterson, of Lancaster, and her 2 children, Kirsten Ditzler and Drew Peterson, who he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Hessinger, of Lancaster; stepson, Douglas Keene, husband of Suzanne, of Strasburg; stepdaughter, Debra Flory, wife of Kevin; 4 grandchildren; and nephews Mark Hessinger, husband of Jennifer and Jeffrey Hessinger, husband of Robbin.
Family and friends will be received from 6PM to 8PM, Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA 17551. Funeral services will be held on 11AM, Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the funeral home. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service from 10AM to 11AM. Interment will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital: https://donate.lovetotherescue.org .
