Wilbert E. "Willy" May, 90, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away at United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. He was born in Elizabeth Twp., to the late Lloyd and Ruth (Kreider) May. Willy was the beloved husband of Patricia A. May of Lititz. His first wife, Arlene (Gilbert) May passed away in January, 1972.
Surviving Willy are his children, Faye A. White and her husband Carl of Ephrata, Ray May and his wife Peggy of Brickerville, and Jay May and his wife Linda of Williamsport. Also surviving are his step-sons, Randy Tropasso of GA, Rick Tropasso of CA and Ronald Tropasso of Lititz; his brother James May of Lititz; his grandchildren, Lisa Althouse, Dawn Hynes, Troy May, Wendy Ryan, Jay May, Jr., Gabrielle Leifeld and Joshua May; 2 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Kreider and Eugene May, and a sister, Ruth Gress.
A carpenter by trade, Willy worked for K May Construction for most of his working career. An active member of the community, he was a founding member of the Brickerville Fire Company in 1947, and held various positions over the years, from being a fire fighter to President. He was also the Chairman of the Bingo Committee and greatly enjoyed Tuesday night Bingo at the fire hall. In July 2015 Willy was honored by the Fire Company for 68 years of service to the community. He also loved to bowl and play golf, and traveled many times to Myrtle Beach with his golfing buddies.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services which will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 20, 2019, at Memory Gardens, 319 Wabash Road, Ephrata, PA, 17522. Those attending are asked to meet at the main entrance at 9:45 AM. For those who cannot attend the graveside service, please join us at the Brickerville fire hall at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Willy's memory may be offered to the Brickerville Fire Company, 10 Hopeland Road, Lititz, PA, 17543, or to Caring Hospice Services , 101 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
