Obituary

Walter Gleason Tymon, 87, of Lancaster, died on January 28, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia on May 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Charles P. and Kathryn Reilly Tymon. He was the devoted husband of Teresa Imelda Abel Tymon. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on October 18th.

Walt was drafted into the service with the US Army and fought in WWII in the 12th Infantry 4th Division in the European Theatre for three campaigns. He was awarded the bronze star. He was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and was an electrician for 38 years for Armstrong World Industries. He was also the founder and President of Tymon Flasher Company from 1955 until 1988.

Walt was devoted to the Blessed Mother and was instrumental in initiating the Novena for Our Lady of Perpetual Help at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. A longtime member of St. Anthony, he was the treasurer for 50 years of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and was the coordinator of the Mount St. Mary retreats for the Parish. Walt was a promoter for the Miraculous Medal Society of Philadelphia.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #34. Above all, Walt loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He could often be seen in the crowd at their various activities. He was a constant inspiration through his example and encouragement to all of his family and extended family. His positive attitude and sense of humor was an uplifting force for all who knew him.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are his five children, Dr. Timothy P. Tymon, husband of Eileen, of Lancaster, Thomas M. Tymon, husband of Yun, of Lancaster, Walter G. Tymon, Jr., husband of Anne, of Downingtown, Mary Teresa Markovits, wife of Timothy G., of Mount Joy, and Christine Ann Robertson of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Timothy, Keegan, Lindsay, Sarah, Teresa, Thomas, Laura, Kevin, Kathryn, T. Paul, and Douglas; and his brother, Charles P. Tymon of Havertown.

We would like to thank Dr. Rudolph and Lore Rigano and Hospice & Community Care for their exceptional care.
