Wallace T. Vlassis, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Brethren Village, where he had been a resident for four years.
Born in Lancaster, Wally was the son of the late Theodore and Susanna (Makrides) Vlassis. He was the loving husband of Florence (Mavrides) Vlassis, who passed away on April 24, 2013.
Wally was a 1942 graduate of McCaskey High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Eisele in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Following his wartime service, Wally earned his Bachelor's Degree from Millersville University and then his Master's Degree from Temple University. He then began a career as a teacher, administrator and Principal in the Penn Manor School District. He also worked as a supervisor at the Watt & Shand department store.
Wally was a life-long member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Lancaster, where he sang in the church choir.
Survivors include daughter Diane (Ken) Gunzenhauser, son Theodore (Chris) Vlassis, son Nick Vlassis, daughter-in-law Christine Vlassis, grandchildren Andy (Ashley) Westphal, Jenna Vlassis, Nicholas Vlassis, Tony Vlassis, Stephen (Elisa) Vlassis, and great-grandchildren Maya and Violet Westphal. He was preceded in death by his brother George Vlassis and sister Rosie Konas.
His daughter Diane wishes to thank the entire staff at Brethren Village for the compassionate care given to her father during his stay.
Funeral Services will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, on Wednesday, April 19, at 10:30am with Rev. Hector Firoglanis officiating. The viewing will be held at church from 9:30-10:30am. Interment service will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wally's memory may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster PA 17603.
