IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vox Charles
“Pete” Swift
May 20, 1929 – April 22, 2022
Vox Charles "Pete" Swift, 92, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2022, in Port Charlotte, FL.
Charles was born on May 20, 1929, and spent his youth in his family's home near Homeville, PA. He was the third of eleven children of Claude V. and Minnie Bell (Williams) Swift. Charles remembered fondly his time in Homeville with his large family, and he often reminisced of his mother and her love for her family.
Charles served in the United States Army. He had a business career in beverage sales with the Royal Crown Cola Company and he traveled for them for many years. When he retired, he spent much of his time traveling the world. He visited China, Europe, Central America, and was back and forth over the United States several times – going as far as Alaska, twice. He loved a good joke, played both right and left-handed golf, was a good storyteller, and an all-around adventurer. He also loved playing "cut-throat" pinochle and drinking port wine, and he had many laughs playing the game with family and friends. He was known affectionately by his grandchildren as Poppop; and just as often as Pop.
Charles spent the last several decades of his life living between St. Petersburg, FL, and Grenada, Nicaragua. He loved spending time on Treasure Island in Florida. He often spoke of his neighbors in Nicaragua and how he would do what he could to make their lives better. He built a home there and enjoyed his view of the mountains from his third floor hammock.
Charles is survived by two siblings. Robert Swift and Shirley (spouse) of Lancaster, PA, and Joyce Lehman of Berkeley Springs, WV. He was predeceased by siblings Thomas, Sarah Sharpe, Alberta, Elizabeth Hess, John, Kenneth, Franklin, and Carroll. Charles is survived by his children Richard Swift, Patricia Smail, Jeanne Swift, Kathleen May, and V. Charles Swift, Jr. He was predeceased by his daughter, Doris LaMonoca. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
