Vincent F. Sapone, 86, of Lancaster, PA died at his home of 40 years on Friday January 12, 2018. He was born in Lancaster City on February 1, 1931 of Italian immigrants, the late John & Christina (Pisani) Sapone.
He graduated from JP McCaskey High School in the class of 1948.
Vincent was preceded in death by his younger brother, Anthony J. Sapone who died in 2002. Tony was his co-owner of the West End Shoe Repair in the Manor Shopping Center, Lancaster. They retired in 2001 after 38 years of service to the community. Also his older brother, Nicholas J. Sapone, Sr. who died in 2012. Surviving are his sister Jennie E. (Sapone) DiCola, wife of Quirino A., Jr. and his forever companion, Eileen Bender Johns, both of Lancaster. Many nieces and nephews and their families are also grieving the loss of their special loved one, Uncle Vince. Vincent was a member of St. Philips the Apostle Catholic Church in Lancaster where he was a former member of the "Guys and Dolls" and "The Men's" Clubs. He also was known for volunteering at certain church functions over the years. Furniture making and summer vacations were some of his favorite hobbies. Vincent proudly served his county in the U S Naval Reserve from 1948-1952 and the US Army in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He valued his membership in the VFW Post #7294 Millersville, Lancaster Co. PA and the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 19th, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 2111 Millersville Pike Lancaster, PA 17603 with The Rev. Lawrence W. Sherdel as Celebrant. The family will receive guests one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at DaVita Dialysis on Manheim Pike for the wonderful care that was given to our dear Vincent for 4½ years to manage his kidney disease. Also the nurses and staff of Hospice & Community Care for the attention given to guarantee his comfort.
