Vincent F. Gray, 93, of Millersville, PA passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Lancaster Regional Hospital.
Born in Dubois, PA he was the son of the late Simon and Patricia Grazulis. He was happily married to Marion Palonis Gray in 1945 and would have celebrated 63 years of marriage in May.
He retired from Gould Electronics in Ohio where he manufactured torpedoes for the U.S. Navy. After retirement he worked part-time in Real Estate.
Vincent served in the U.S. Navy in WWII aboard the Destroyer, USS O'Brien. He took part in the invasion of Normandy where his ship was torpedoed. After repairs they took part in the invasion of Okinawa, Japan and were attacked by a Kamikaze. In Sept. 1998 he was among a group of Vets awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for his participation in the D-Day Invasion of Occupied France in June, 1944. It was presented by Congressman Joseph Pitts.
He was member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Lithuania of Cleveland, and was a graduate of Mary & Father Seminary in Thompson, CT.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Patricia married to Otto Stegmaier of Minnesota, Mary Ann Gray-Schlegel married to Thomas Schlegel of Lancaster, and Cynthia Gray married to James Stephens of Philadelphia, PA; 7 grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews and a brother Joseph of Paradise, CA. Preceding him in death are three sisters, Lilian, Mary, Veronica, and a brother Frank.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pk., Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 11am. A viewing will take place at the church from 10-11am. Final Commendation and Farewell will take place at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with the Honor Guard present. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Vincent's memory.
