Veta M. Abel, 94, formerly of Bausman, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Harrison House in Christiana, with her daughters by her bedside. She was born in Harrisburg to the late Miller and Edna M. Hengst Trout.

She worked for RCA for 33 years, retiring in 1981. A member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church since age 15, Veta taught Sunday school for 25 years, was a Cub Scout leader for 12 years, and was active in the Women's Circle. To benefit Luther Acres, she recycled cancelled stamps to be purchased by stamp collectors for 25 years.

Veta's surviving family includes 2 daughters, Phyllis A. Doughty of Ephrata and Audrey J. Weiler of Bausman; 5 grandchildren, Paige, wife of Roy Rettew, Adam Doughty, husband of Lisa, Thomas Goehrig, husband of Emily, Amy, wife of Ron Reis and Katherine, wife of Jason Fegel; 8 great-grandchildren, Emily, Ethan, Clarice, Lillian, Ronald, Devon, Quinn and Ian; and her sister Armyllis, wife of John Martin. Veta was preceded in death by her former husband Donald R. Abel, Sr., infant son Donald R. Abel, Jr., granddaughter Diane Doughty and her sister Vivian Young.

A Visitation will take place 12:30 to 1 PM, followed by the Memorial Service at 1 PM, on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of King and Manor Streets, Lancaster, with Rev. Peter Schwabe-Fry officiating. Interment in Riverview Burial Park. In Lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 407 Lafayette St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
