Vermelle R. DeFranco, 87, of Millersville, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Ira C. and Pauline (Weidinger) Althouse. She was married to the late Louis R. DeFranco who passed away in 1988.

Vermelle was a homemaker and took pride in being a caretaker for many family and friends. She was a former member of the St. Philips Women's Auxiliary Club and the Guys and Dolls Club of St. Philips. She was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Millersville.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen S. Haas, wife of Scott B., of Millersville.  Five grandchildren: Tamara L. Carlson, Keith A. Gross, Kimberly A. Griest, Krista D. Haas, and Steven B. Haas. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: Kaghen A. Gross, Ryan L. Carlson, Billy E. Carlson, Lydia M. Sylvester and a sister, Dorothy Leike, of Parkesburg, PA. She is preceded in death by 2 daughters, Pauline A. DeFranco, Sharon L. Gross widow of Robert and one great-grandchild, Tierney M. Gross. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3PM on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603 with Rev. Mark E. Weiss as Celebrant. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday between 2-3PM. Interment will be private in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Vermelle's memory to St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603.
