IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas P.
"Tommie" Blevins, Jr.
May 29, 2017
Thomas P. "Tommie" Blevins, Jr., 76, of Lancaster, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Monday, May 29, 2017, at Magnolias of Lancaster.
Tommie was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was born and raised in Virginia, the son of the late Thomas P. and Mary A. (Price) Blevins. He graduated from Radford High School in the Rock-N-Roll '50s. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Kingsolver) Blevins.
In the '60s he experienced the excitement of being a photographer for the Washington Post, and in the '70s and '80s he had an insider's view of national politics as an electrician on Capitol Hill.
While working and raising a family in Falls Church, Virginia, Tommie persevered through years of night school. His family proudly celebrated with him as he received his college degree from George Mason University and changed career directions. He worked as a systems analyst with the federal government for a number of years and then moved to Lancaster with Betty to enjoy retirement.
In addition to his wife, Betty, Tommie is survived by his children: John Thomas Blevins, husband of Jadira, of Springfield, VA; Dr. Susan Mellinger, wife of Don, of Lancaster; and CDR Walter Jay Armstrong, Jr., husband of Melissa, of Falls Church, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Vince Thomas Blevins; Rachel Elizabeth, Ryan William, and Jordan Xiao Mellinger; Caroline Elizabeth and Lauren Grace Armstrong; and his sister, Barbara Smith, of Warrenton, VA.
A Celebration of Tommie's life will be held at 11AM, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, with Rev. Dr. Michael A. Rogers, officiating. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 to 11AM. Interment will follow at Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 706 Rothsville Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.
His family will miss Tommie's silly and fun sense of humor, his contagious love of American and Ancient Egyptian history, his laughter, smiles, and generous heart.
We love you, Poppy!
