Obituary

Lancaster native Thomas C. "Tom" McCarty, 60, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Jennifer Kirchner McCarty, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. Tom was the son of the late Thomas E. and Esther I. "Stacy" Storms McCarty.

Tom was a man of deep faith and a lifelong, active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and taught CCD classes. His devotion to his faith was part of a proud family legacy—dating back to 1743, when the McCarty family helped establish St. John the Baptist Church in Bucks County, PA. Today, the Catholic Diocese recognizes it as the site of the first recorded baptism in the 13 original colonies.

Tom was widely known as a kind and compassionate soul, a true "friend to all." He had an infectious love for people, music, travel, and the joys of life itself. Whether at a family gathering or a social event, he was always the life of the party, effortlessly drawing others in with his laughter and natural humor. But beyond his wit, it was his rare gift for connecting with people that truly set him apart. Tom had a unique ability to put others at ease; he was a true helping hand who put a smile on everyone's face.

A passionate Philadelphia sports fan, Tom had a special place in his heart for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a decades-long season ticket holder, sharing many memorable moments with friends and family at the games. In recent years, Tom dedicated his time to umpiring youth baseball, a passion that followed his earlier years of coaching youth teams.

For the past 14 years, Tom served as the national sales manager for Stoner Consumer Brands, makers of Invisible Glass. His career in sales began with Kunzler & Company, where he worked for 11 years. He was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned his MBA from Lebanon Valley College. Deeply committed to his community, Tom also made a significant impact through his charitable work. He served on the board of directors for Celebration for Life (C4Life), a local charity dedicated to raising funds for the fight against cancer. Additionally, he was a co-founder and co-chair of the Tee Off for Tom, Tom McCarty Memorial Golf Tournament, an event established in memory of his father to support children battling cancer and their families.

In addition to his wife, Jen, Tom is survived by his two children: Braden T. and Lily M.; his sisters Patrice, wife of Michael Hoenninger, Lancaster, and Trudy, wife of John Wonder of St. Michaels, MD; and his brother-in-law, John Bender, Jr., of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol A. Bender.
