May 30, 1940 – November 9, 2023
Thomas C. Ord of Lancaster, passed away on November 9, 2023. He was married to Nancy Gavern Ord for 59 years. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Oliver P. and Catherine Verdetto Ord. He graduated in 1959 from West Scranton High School and in 1961 from Lackawanna Jr. College, Scranton.
Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Gordon, Augusta, GA. He was a payroll specialist providing payroll for soldiers in the Vietnam war.
Tom's career started with Aetna Insurance in Scranton, with positions in Reading, Hartford, CT, and Pittsburgh. He then joined SAI (CoreSource) in Lancaster in 1986. He retired in 2003 as Vice-President of Operations.
After retirement, Tom enjoyed many activities including golf, bowling, and volunteering at Meals on Wheels. A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tom served as a Eucharist Minister and board member of the Student Assistance program. His favorite past times were attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events.
He enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy and Orlando, Florida. He was an avid collector of all things Gene Autry.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Tom is survived by two sons, Thomas S, Bridgeville, and Kenneth M, wife Candace, Landisville. Grandchildren, Briana, Mackenzie (Josh), Michael, and Blake (Amy). Great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Riley, and Mason. Brother, Oliver R., Bloomsburg, Niece Kimberly (Gary), and Nephew Oliver.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ann Jones and sister-in-law, Christine Ord.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 15th at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 119 South Prince St., Lancaster, PA, with The Rev. Brian T. C. Olkowski and The Rev. Bernardo Pistone concelebrating. Family and friends will be received at the church one hour prior to Mass. Private interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
