Obituary

Thomas Barry Hyson, 68, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at his home.  Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Walter F. Hyson, Jr. and Miriam (Warren) Hyson.  Thomas was the loving husband of Leslie L. (Mugar) Hyson with whom he celebrated 17 years of marriage.

A Vietnam veteran, Thomas served in the United States Marine Corps.  He was a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper.  His most recent position was as executive director of the state Weed & Seed Program in Harrisburg.  Thomas served two four-year terms on the Lancaster City School Board, one as board president. Thomas' past community involvement included: South East Sertoma Club, board memberships includes The Partnership, Community Action Program, First Tee of South Central Pa., and Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County. This represents only some of Mr. Hyson's community involvement.

Tom enjoyed fishing and horse racing.

In addition to his wife, Leslie, Thomas is survived by his children: John Hyson, Sharon Darden, wife of Don, Stephanie MacPhail, wife of Duncan, Andrea Hyson, Bethany Baez, wife of Raul, and Ann Redmond; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Jones, wife of L.R. Jones and Caroll O. Hyson-States; a brother, Gregory Hyson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Thomas is preceded in death by his two brothers, Warren and James Hyson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Bright Side Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 with Rev. Preston G. Kay, III officiating.  A viewing will be held from 9:30-11a.m. also at Bright Side. Interment will be at Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Thomas' memory to the New Life Christian Fellowship Church, 1501 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603.  To send the family online condolences, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com.
