Thomas R. Darrenkamp, 91, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at St. Anne's Retirement Community in Columbia. He was the husband of the late Sara E. McGuigan Darrenkamp, who passed away in 1981. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late George and Catherine Flick Darrenkamp. Thomas had worked for the Lancaster Fire Department for 34 years, retiring as Deputy Chief. He was a 1942 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy in World War II, serving in the Atlantic and European Theaters of operation. Thomas was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved children, gardening and animals, especially black labs. He is survived by his loving daughters: Michele A. wife of the late Dennis Casey of Mt. Joy, Denise M. married to Lewis Ohrel Jr of Lancaster, Karen L. married to Kerry Mehaffey of Millersville, and Christine D. married to Edward Eschbach of Willow Street, and he was preceded in death by his son Thomas Scott Darrenkamp, He was also survived by 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Wolfe, Stacey Mehaffey, Les Ohrel, K. Renee Darrenkamp, Sara-Joan Eschbach, and Everett Thomas Eschbach; his 6 great grandchildren: Noah, Ella, Riley, Savannah, Madeline, and Gabriel; and by his 3 siblings: Eugene married to Mary Darrenkamp of Washington Boro, Maryanne married to Joseph Rumberger and Ronald married to Anne Darrenkamp, both of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Richard, Gerald and Raymond. Friends will be received on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 9-11 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 554 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Thomas' memory to St. Annes Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512 or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
