IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan Armstrong
Hast
October 13, 2024
Susan Armstrong Hast, 70, of Venice, FL and formerly of Lancaster, PA, passed away in Tampa, FL on October 13, 2024. Susie was born in Lancaster, PA and was the daughter of Andrew J. Armstrong of Palm Beach, FL and the late Patricia (Abel) Armstrong.
Susie is survived by her loving husband of 8 years, William T. Hast, of Venice, FL, and the memory of her late husband of 31 years, John Kelley. She cherished the joy of raising her two children, Drew Kelley, husband of Rachel Kelley, of Chapel Hill, NC and Hilary (Kelley) Kichler, wife to Lance Kichler, of Atlanta, GA, and was a devoted grandmother to her two precious grandchildren, Taylor and Sydney, who brought her immense joy and pride. She was also a beloved sister to her two brothers, Dwight L. Armstrong, husband of Kathie, of Irvine, CA, and Andrew J. Armstrong, Jr., husband of Brenda, of North Palm Beach, FL who will forever hold dear the memories of their time together.
Susie graduated from The Purnell School of Bedminster, NJ and the University of Arizona with a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts. Susie had a particular fondness for French painters like Matisse, Monet and Renoir, admiring their use of acrylics, oils and watercolors. She often found inspiration in their work, bringing energy and creativity into her own life through painting. Her paintings of landscapes, still life, and animals, especially dogs, occupy cherished spots in the homes of family and friends across the country. Susie had an amazing skill of capturing each pet's unique personality, particularly through her soulful drawing of their eyes. Beyond a personal avocation, Susie transformed her passion into a successful career in graphic design, working for esteemed advertising agencies in Los Angeles, CA and Lancaster, PA.
From a young age, athletic pursuits captured her heart, and she dedicated countless hours to swimming, riding horses and playing tennis. Tennis became a central part of Susie's life, a way to connect with others, build lasting friendships, and embrace an active lifestyle. Whether playing in local leagues or cheering on others from the sidelines, Susie was known for her sportsmanship, encouragement, and ever-positive attitude.
An animal lover through and through, Susie's nurturing spirit extended beyond family; her home was always a sanctuary committed to rescuing and providing loving homes for countless cats and dogs in need.
Susie's laughter was a constant presence. It was a gift; an easy, unforced sound of pure happiness that spread warmth and comfort wherever it was heard. It was a laughter that made others laugh too, and that, in turn, made the world a little brighter.
A Memorial Service is planned for early Spring 2025 in Lancaster, PA at Highland Presbyterian Church. Details will be provided in a future service announcement. A private burial will take place at Highland Presbyterian Memorial Garden, where she will be laid to rest next to her first husband, John, and her mother, Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be made in Susie's memory to the Humane League of Lancaster 2195 Lincoln Hwy E. Lancaster, PA 17602 or the CJD Foundation 3634 W. Market St. Suite 110 Akron, OH 44333 or online https://cjdfoundation.org/donations/
