Obituary

Stephen William Hartin, 73, of Lancaster, died Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in New York City, he was the husband of Jane (Wardlow) Hartin of Lancaster, and the son of the late Raymond and Evelyn (Odstrum) Hartin. He received his B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University and his Master's in Educational Administration from Temple University. Steve served as the Principal for the Upper Moreland School District in Willow Grove and the Elementary Principal in Sea Isle City, NJ. He retired in 2000 from teaching in the Lancaster School District after 15 years of service. Steve was a member of the PA Association of School Retirees (PASR) and Highland Presbyterian Church. He was a co-owner of the former Water Buggy Water Slide on Lincoln Highway East and an active volunteer with United Disability Services, both in Lancaster. Steve never missed any of his children's or grandchildren's sporting events, and he, along with his wife, hosted a Barnstormers player every year for the past 8 years. In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by a daughter, Amy E. Amspacher and her husband Dale of Lancaster; two sons: Matthew S. Hartin and his wife Noel of Nashville, TN and Bradford W. Hartin and his wife Carrie of Baltimore; 8 grandchildren: Emily, Drake, Ann, Royce, Will, Colin, Jozette, and Rex; and one brother, Clifford R. Hartin of Roslyn, PA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew M. Amspacher, and a brother, John D. Hartin. Funeral services will be held at 7 PM on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Rd, Lancaster with the Rev. Dr. Ann Osborne officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 5:30 to 7 prior to the service. Burial will be at 12 noon Saturday, January 10, 2015 in Milwaukee Cemetery, Clarks Summit, PA. Kindly omit flowers. The family would like to thank the Memory Care Center at LGH, the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit at Regional, and Hospice & Community Care for their excellent care of Steve.
