Obituary

Stavros C. Stavrinou, 95, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) hospital in Lititz, PA. Stavros was born April 1, 1928, in Marathouvounos, Cyprus to Christos and Maria Televantos. He served honorably. In the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He later pursued his Bachelor of Science (BS) at the University of Pittsburgh, PA. He then went on to obtain his Masters of Science (MS) from Franklin & Marshall.

Stavros started his career as a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University where he first did his early work in adhesives. He then went on to dedicate 30 years to Armstrong World Industries where he was a Senior Research Chemist and was known for his ability to trouble shoot international problems. Stavros was recognized by the Congressional Book of Records for his work in removing asbestos and other harmful chemicals from the manufacturing process which earned him several United States patents.

After his successful professional career, Stavros retired in 1989 and relocated with his wife Barbara to his birthplace of Cyprus where he always enjoyed the sun and spending time with his family on the beaches and in the mountains. Stavros was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching anything to do with his college alma mater, University of Pittsburgh, and the Steelers.

Stavros was a Mason with Lodge #45F@am in Pittsburgh, PA, a Zembo Shriner, in Lancaster PA, a Tall Cedar with Lancaster Forest #27, and member of the American Legion in Lancaster, PA. He and Barbara returned to the states in 2004 and settled in Manheim, PA. Stavros is survived by his brother, Panayiotis Televantos and wife, Kyriakou, his wife, Barbara Stavrinou, his daughters, Maroulla S. Gleaton, MD, Melanie S. Gargano, and Christina S. Kite, his three sons-in law, Richard L. Phippen, Joseph L. Gargano, and Harold W. Kite, and six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He will also be remembered by his stepson Donald Brosey and Melissa Brosey and their two children. He is preceded by his first wife, Martha M. Stavrinou, and his parents.

Memorial services will be held privately.
