Stavros "Steve" Mamas, 88, passed away at his Lancaster City home on Saturday, April 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chios, Greece to the late Kosta and Irini (Kalargyros) Mamas. Steve and his wife Joanna (Karousakis) Mamas shared 60 years of marriage. Steve served in the Greek Army by Thessaloniki during WWII. He lived and worked in Germany for Porsche before immigrating to America with his young family in 1966. Steve started at Hamilton Watch as a janitor and through hard and dedicated work he retired as a machinist from Hamilton Precision Metals. He was a faithful parishioner of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Steve loved his grandchildren and he was dedicated to the church and his family. He was a very honest and hardworking man. Steve loved to tend to his rose bushes and he was very proud of how beautiful they were. Everyone knew his home by the beautiful colorful roses when they drove by. Steve also enjoyed caring for his vegetable garden. Surviving Steve in addition to his loving wife Joanna, are his son Stamatios S. "Tom" Mamas, husband of Marcie of Chestertown, MD and daughter-in-law Eleni Mamas, wife of the late Dr. Constantine Mamas of Lancaster; 7 grandchildren, Mariah, Anna, Costas, Kaliope, Stavros, Vasili and Yiannis; his sister Athena Mirisis of Hamilton Twp., NJ, and brother Diamanti Mamas, husband of Sotiria of Athens, Greece, and many nephews and nieces. In addition to his son Constantine, Stavros was preceded in death by his brother Apostoli Mamas and his sisters Stella Mountis and Eleni Kostidis. Viewings will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church from 6-8 PM on Monday, April 16, 2018 and from 9:30-10:30 AM on Tuesday April 17th, followed by the funeral at 10:30 AM with Fr. Hector Firoglanis and Fr. Alexander Veronis officiating. The Trisagion service will take place on Monday at 7 PM. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603.
