Shirley Maxine Seifried Spangenburg of Lititz went home to be with her Lord on November 9, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.
She was the daughter of the late Norwood and Elizabeth Rineer Seifried. Born and raised in Quarryville, she was the youngest of eight children.
Shirley graduated from Solanco High School in the class of 1949.
She was married to Oren E. Spangenburg of Eldred, NY. In 1961, she and her husband founded and operated Garden Spot Badge Company of Lititz. They sold the company in 1985.
Shirley was a member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren and Friendship Sunday School Class. She was active in many church activities and especially enjoyed teaching English to a Burmese family.
Her hobbies included reading, gardening, traveling, camping, fishing, and dancing to big name bands. Shirley loved music.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Oren. They were married for 55 years. The wedding was held in the Quarryville Methodist Church on May 11, 1957. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Gary Lee, husband of A. Kim (Jones) of East Petersburg, and James Edward, husband of Stacey Rae (Miller) of Lititz. She was preceded in death by her son, Scott Douglas, in 1981.
She has five grandsons: Jordan, husband of Jennifer (Strauss), Justin, and Ryan all of East Petersburg, and Tyler and Connor of Lititz.
Shirley is survived by two siblings, Adele Davis of Jenkintown, and Glenn Seifried of Hilton Head, SC. She was preceded in death by brothers Jack, Dale, and Dwight Seifried and sisters Kathleen Shimp and Phyllis Wolf.
A private viewing and interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Old Zion Cemetery in Brickerville. A Life Celebration Service will be held at Lititz Church of the Brethren on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Shirley's memory to Lititz Church of the Brethren Youth Fund, 300 W. Orange St., Lititz, PA 17543 or Hospice, 685 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17604.
