Shirley A. Ryder 86, of Lancaster, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at The Long Home at Highland after a lengthy illness. Born in Lykens, PA she was the daughter of the late Paul and Emily (Pinkerton) Hoover. She was the wife of the late Penrose E. Ryder, Jr. who passed away this past November. Shirley attended Steelton Centenary United Methodist Church. She worked for the PA Department of Revenue for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spending summers on Cape Cod. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Shirley is survived by her daughter Laurie Collins, wife of Christopher of Lancaster; grandchildren Daniel Collins of Lancaster, and Jillian Collins of Philadelphia; brother, Jack Hoover, husband of Marlene of Dauphin, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in the Sell Chapel of Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. There will be no visitation, however the family will greet guests following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
