Sarah "Sally" Welch Hobbins, 68, of Lititz, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of Ellis and Anna Reese Homsher.
Sarah graduated from Ephrata High School, earned her bachelor's degree in education from Millersville University and continued post-graduate work at Bloomsburg University. She was a special education teacher for the IU-13 at Conestoga Valley High School. After retiring from teaching she found joy in caring for the elderly.
Sarah loved birds, photography and music. An accomplished pianist and singer, she loved performing for friends and family. Sarah loved people and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. As a teacher and caregiver of so many, Sarah had a special gift for raising your spirit and bringing joy to others. Her marvelous smile, witty sense of humor and positive outlook helped others find comfort in even the toughest situations.
Her surviving family includes 2 children, Rachel Welch, wife of Brian Kelm of Ellicott City, MD, and Rodney C. Welch, III, husband of Lisa Hamasaki of Orinda, CA; 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Ellis, Avery and Oliver, her former husband Rodney C. Welch, Jr., her long time friend Jake Fehl, sister Darlene, wife of Robert Henley of Lititz, 3 nieces, Margaret Henley, Rebecca Kline and Susan Phillips and 2 nephews Tim Henley and James Dinulos. Sarah was preceded in death by her sister Anna H. Dinulos.
The Funeral will take place 11 AM Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17602. Viewings will be held 6-8 PM Friday, October 5, 2012 (TONIGHT) and 10-11 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Interment in Longeneckers Reformed Mennonite Cemetery.
