Obituary

Sara Ann Wentz, 98, of Lancaster passed away at Pleasant View Retirement Home, Manheim on February 1, 2018. She was the wife of the late James W. Wentz, a retired Lancaster County Realtor and Appraiser, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage. The daughter of the late Ernest H. and Liela Frantz Miller, Sara Ann, fondly known to many as Pinky, was born in 1919 and raised on East King Street, Lancaster where she attended elementary school. In eighth grade her family moved to their farm on Pine Drive and she graduated from East Lampeter High School. She fondly remembered riding horseback with family and friends; most especially with her father. She was an avid horse-back rider and a member of the Lancaster Riding Club and gave riding lessons as a young girl.

During World War II Sara Ann worked for Hamilton Watch and was married to James W. Wentz. After returning from oversees Jim was stationed in San Francisco where Sara Ann joined him. After he completed his service in the Navy, they returned to Lancaster. Jim began his career in real estate and while raising their two sons, Sara Ann worked as secretary for James W. Wentz Insurance and Appraisal, Lancaster.

Sara Ann served in many volunteer positions including The Red Cross. She was a member of The National Society Daughters of The American Colonists, The Lancaster County Historical Society, The Iris Club and The Humane League of Lancaster County. She loved raising and training their German Shepherds.

Growing up in the city of Lancaster she attended First Reformed with her family, especially enjoying Sunday school. After marriage she started attending Grace United Church of Christ in Eden. She very much liked working with the youth at Grace and took them to other youth fellowship groups around the county.

Surviving are two sons, James W. Wentz, Jr., wife Karen K. and David M. Wentz, wife Angela, both of Lancaster. Sara Ann has two granddaughters, Jennifer W. Kintner, husband Wes of Lancaster and Dr. Christina A. Foutz, husband Andy of Minnesota; a great granddaughter, Sara Ann Foutz, a great grandson, Connor James Foutz; a nephew Thomas Wentz, New Holland and many other nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her sister, Mary Jane Wentz, New Holland; and her brothers, Robert Miller, Pottstown and Don Miller, Lancaster.
