Obituary

Sandra Marie Pike (née Thomas), aged 90, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026 after a full and wonderful life.

Sandra (Sandy) was born the youngest of ten children to Hattie (Gotwalt) and Paul Thomas on July 30, 1935. At twelve years old she met the love of her life, Larry Pike, in her 7th grade homeroom, and they were married shortly after graduating in 1953 from William Penn High in York, PA. In every stage of life, Sandy made it possible for Larry to pursue multiple degrees and build his career while they raised two daughters.

Throughout the decades, opportunity took them from the Philadelphia suburbs to Delaware and from North Jersey to Cincinnati, OH before they eventually settled back in Central PA for retirement in 2005. In 1991 they purchased a second home on Sanibel Island in Florida, a place that now holds the memories of so many vacations and special occasions for their family and friends.

Sandy will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and generosity. She never missed an opportunity to send a card or handwritten note, and she had a way of making entertaining look easy. She rarely turned down a sweet treat, especially if it had peanut butter, and she was an avid reader who enjoyed a full day of shopping. For many years she dreamed of sharing her love of Orvieto, Italy with her children and grandchildren, a trip that was finally realized in 2008.

In addition to her parents, Sandy is preceded in death by her nine siblings, her husband of 57 years, and her oldest daughter, Karen Aungst. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Frain and husband, Kevin, of Lancaster, PA and her son-in-law Brian Aungst Sr. of Clearwater, FL. She also leaves behind grandchildren Brian Aungst Jr. and wife, Cary; Ashley Anderson and husband Kyle; Renata Brooks and husband Daniel; Karis Frain and partner, James Sodano; and Meredith Frain; as well as six great-grandchildren: Brynn, Rowan, Ross, Bruce, Freya, and Cecily; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at Hempfield UMC at 3050 Marietta Ave in Lancaster, PA on May 9 at 10:30am with a visitation beginning at 9:30am and a luncheon to follow. A graveside service is scheduled to take place at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York, PA at 2pm on the same day. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Salvation Army at 50 E. King Street in York or your local Salvation Army.
