Ruth Darlene (Long) Schlegel, 77, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at home after spending time with her loving family. Born in West Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Anna E. (Hoverter) and William R. Long, Sr.

Ruth was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Prior to retirement, she worked as a CNM at Gentle Beginnings Midwife Service. Before that, she was an RN at Hershey Medical Center and for Christine Janovscheck, DO. She was also an RN/Birth Assistant for several Home Birth Midwives in Lancaster County.

Ruth was a talented seamstress and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children: Denise Welk (Wayne, Jr.), Jennifer Heistand (Dustin), Emily Schlegel, Amanda Schlegel (Francis Nikolaus); brother William Long (Cheryl); grandchildren: Miranda Heistand, Alexandra May, Corinne Heistand, Amber Nikolaus; nephews: Steven Reinert and Kevin Reinert; and friend, Barb Linder.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, address above, or to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will be private.
