Ruth E. Johnson, 93, of Strasburg, passed away, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was born in Lancaster to the late Allen and Kathryn Roehm Sweigart. Ruth's loving husband of 47 years, Glenn W. Johnson, passed away in 1998.

She was a 1941 graduate of J. P. McCaskey High School. Ruth was probably most proud of her family, devoting all of her time and love to her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a school crossing guard, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and active in her daughter's classroom activities. She was a great cook and loved preparing meals for her family. In addition to caring for her family, Ruth held several jobs as a waitress and worked alongside her husband in the catering department at High Foods.

Ruth and Glenn enjoyed traveling and spending winters at their home in Ft. Myers, FL. She was a staunch supporter of animal welfare. Ruth was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Surviving Ruth are her two daughters, Gail L., wife of Charlie Sheaffer, Ronks and Patricia A., wife of John Lewis, Lancaster; four grandchildren, Justin Sheaffer, husband of Jaime (Harnish), Strasburg, Christopher Sheaffer, fiancé of Danielle LaCroix, Gordonville, Erin Lewis, Lancaster and Aimee Lewis, Bellefonte; and her great-grandson Carter Charles Sheaffer, Strasburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother, Gladys, wife of the late William Child, Doris, wife of the late Clair Alexander, Shirley, wife of the late Cleon Rineer and Allen Sweigart, Jr., husband of Cathy.

After the passing of her husband, Ruth enjoyed a 17 year friendship with fellow high school classmate, Bill Lausch, who passed away this past June.

A celebration of Ruth's life will take place 7 PM, Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 40 W. Main St., Strasburg, PA 17579, with The Rev. David R. Alderson officiating. Friends will be received from 6 to 7 PM at the church. Private interment in Strasburg Cemetery.
