Obituary

Rufus K. Burkholder, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Luther Acres. He was the husband of the late Marian Stoner Burkholder. He was the son of the late Clayton N. and A. Laura Kline Burkholder. Born in Farmersville, PA, Rufus graduated from Brownstown High School. He and his wife owned and operated the former Burkholder's Grocery Store from 1950 – 1960. Following in the footsteps of his father's family business, he and Marian also owned and operated the former Burkholder's Potato Chips in Lititz from 1964 to 1972. He then went to work for Woodstream in the shipping department and after 16 years retired in 1988. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II. Rufus has been a very special Luther Acres volunteer for 19 years. He has quietly and without fanfare bound up all newspapers and magazines on campus on a daily basis before it became too difficult. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 0056, Lititz, was an avid fan of all the Philadelphia teams, watching baseball, playing cards, including bridge and poker, and at one time enjoyed bowling. He is lovingly survived by his family of three daughters, Susan B. Beccone, Marie B., wife of Thomas A. Ridder, and Barbara Ann, wife of Michael D. Shotzberger, all of Lititz; five grandchildren, Michael Landis, Bethany, wife of Tim Leister, Timothy Shotzberger, Koren, wife of Barry Adomnik, and Gabe Bushong, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray K. Burkholder. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to VisionCorps, 244 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
