Roy W. Miller, 93, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was the husband of Madeline Little Miller, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage this past October 12th. Born in Mount Wolf, PA, he was the son of the late Norman and Ada Wolfrom Miller.
Roy was a life insurance agent with Allstate Insurance for 38 years, being the first Allstate agent established in Lancaster County. He maintained offices at the former Sears, first in Lancaster city, then on Oregon and Lititz Pikes, and later at Park City. He last had offices on Lincoln Hwy East until retirement in 1986. He and his wife Madeline then founded their printing business in 1978, Millers' Tape and Label in Lititz, which is still in operation today.
With a great love of the outdoors, Roy enjoyed swimming, camping and boating at North East, MD, Steamboat Landing in Delaware and Angola By The Bay in Delaware, but his passion was fishing.
He liked to ballroom dance, enjoyed reading, was lifetime member the Lancaster Elks Lodge 134, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Steelton Moose Lodge, and was a social member of the Ephrata American Legion.
In addition to his wife, Madeline, he is survived by his daughter, Shirley married to Gene Kurtz of Rothsville; his son Larry married to Doris Miller of Vienna, VA; his 5 grandchildren: Jonathan Kurtz, Jennifer Stoner, Kristin Miller, Kimberly Kingman, and Kelly Miller; and by his 3 great grandchildren: Edward Kurtz, Anastazia Stoner, and Jarred Stoner. Roy was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Bethany Stoner.
Friends will be received on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 10:30-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Interment in Long Memorial United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603, or to the Kidney Foundation of Central PA, 1500 Paxton Street, Suite 010, Harrisburg, PA 17104.
