Robert Joseph Stengel, M.D. passed away on November 4, 2010 at the age of 51.
Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of Anne Agnes McShane Stengel of Lancaster, and the late Lawrence Edward Stengel. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda M. (Moeslein) Stengel and three children: Michael R., Jennifer C., and Robert L. Stengel. He is also survived by his mother, brothers and sisters: Lawrence F., husband of Theresa B., of Lancaster, MaryBeth of Lancaster, James R., husband of Kathleen H., of Cincinnati, Kathleen A., wife of James T. Alton, of Lancaster, and John P., husband of Marycatherine, of Lancaster.
Dr. Stengel graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1977, received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the Johns Hopkins University in 1981, and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1985. He completed the Lancaster General Hospital Family Practice residency in 1988 and was a solo family medicine practitioner on West Chestnut Street in Lancaster. He joined Oyster Point Family Health Center in 2002, where he practiced until his death. He was beloved by his patients. Dr. Stengel was board certified by the American Board of Family Practice with an Added Qualification in Geriatrics and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He previously served as member of the Lancaster Health Alliance Board of Directors, secretary/treasurer of the Department of Family Practice at Lancaster General Hospital, member of the Advisory Board of Mental Health/Mental Retardation of Lancaster County, member of the Lancaster Sertoma Club, and member of the Physician Advisory Board, HealthGuard of Lancaster.
A devout Roman Catholic, Bob was a member of Sacred Heart parish in Lancaster all his life. He enjoyed golf, running, bicycling, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 West Walnut Street, Lancaster, PA with Rev. Michael Culkin as Celebrant and Rev. Michael Messner as Con-Celebrant. A visitation will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 5 PM to 8 PM. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 8 PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA.
