Obituary

Dr. Robert Snader, 93, of the Mennonite Home and previously of Marietta Avenue in Lancaster Township, died peacefully on February 25, 2013. Born in Terre Hill, PA, he was the son of the late Roman and Mazie (Frankhouser) Snader. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Margaret Krall Snader in June of 2008.

Dr. Bob was a 1938 graduate of JP McCaskey High School and proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. While serving as a Technical Sergeant with the 84 th Infantry Division in Germany, he was awarded the bronze star with oak leaf cluster for his heroic service. Orange St. with Drs. Heistand, Axelrod and Scott, specializing in family practice. He was particularly proud of the fact that he delivered nearly 1,000 babies over his three plus decades of practice. He was a past president of the Lancaster County Society of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons as well as the Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital medical staff.

Following his retirement from family practice in 1985, he worked for three years for the Center City Family Health Center, where he helped to train the Medical Students and Family Practice Residents of the former Community Hospital of Lancaster. He guided the young physicians in a manner that enabled them to provide a high level of compassion to their future patients, which is what made Dr. Snader so special to all of his own patients.

He enjoyed music, dancing, tennis and golf and was a long-time member of the Conestoga Country Club. In the past, he volunteered as the team doctor for Hempfield's boys basketball team and also as an assistant coach for both the St. Leo's boys and girls basketball teams. He and his wife were avid Phillies fans and loved attending sporting events of their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by two children: Deborah Overbaugh wife of Joseph of East Hempfield Township, and Barbara Miller of Landisville. He has seven grandchildren: Dr. Robert Overbaugh husband of Kristen of San Antonio TX, Matthew Overbaugh husband of Kimberly of Lancaster, Christopher Overbaugh husband of Shannon of Noti, OR, Melissa Higgins wife of Lt Colonel Matthew of Goodyear AZ, Dr. Stacey Denlinger wife of Craig of Manheim, Bryan Stutzman of Winchester, VA and Samantha Risser wife of Todd of Winchester VA.
