Robert Carl Schmidt, II, 65, of Mount Joy and formerly of Lititz and Johnstown, beloved husband, father and grandfather, quietly passed into eternity on May 11, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care. Born in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Robert Carl, Sr. and Ethel Viola Kirby Schmidt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Pamela S. Jones Schmidt, their daughters, Hollie, wife of Joseph DeFilippo of Lititz and Heidi, wife of Nick Scott of Palmyra, their grandchildren Drew and Leah Shirk and Sara and Finn DeFilippo, his mother-in-law Norma Jones, brother-in-law David Jones, wife Karen, and their family, four siblings, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law Robert Jones.
A graduate of Richland Senior High School, Johnstown, he served 14 years in the PA National Guard. Robert worked for Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown, Good's Furniture, New Holland and Compleat Restorations, Ephrata.
Robert enjoyed summers at their house in Dagsboro, DE, which they fondly referred to as "Happyville", and nearby Bethany Beach. Robert's family benefitted from his wisdom, his never-wavering integrity and his loving manner. "Thank you for teaching us all what truly matters in life. We love you."
Throughout his life, he had many fun and memorable times with his family. He especially enjoyed owning more than 20 Corvettes with his wife over the years and always looked forward to car shows and road trips with his good friends and the Lancaster County Corvette Club. Robert had an extensive music collection that covered all genres and generations.
"When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice". Cherokee
Special thanks for providing comfort and care to Hospice & Community Care, Dr. Sieber and Dr. Anderson.
At Robert's request, there will be no formal services and interment will be private. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603 or to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
