Robert G. Parks, 89, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2009, at Hospice of Lancaster County. Born in Baird, Texas on April 8, 1920, he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Mabel M. (Miller) Parks. Robert was married to the late Frances E. (Brennan) Parks who died in December of 2005.
Mr. Parks was employed by Good Year Tire Co. for over 35 years as an account executive. Before starting his career, Mr. Parks worked on the Manhattan Project. After retirement, he became a real estate agent and was also a contract representative for the Occupational Development Center in Lancaster. Mr. Parks was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Toastmasters Club. He was a graduate of Gettysburg College and was active in the College's Alumni Assoc. Robert was also a member of the Heritage Club and the ATO Fraternity. Mr. Parks regularly competed in the Senior Olympics. His other hobbies and interests included, politics, current events, watching sports, especially golf and football
Mr. Parks is survived by his daughter, Susan, wife of David Harnish of Lancaster; two granddaughters: Erin, wife of Joseph Whiskeyman of Ephrata and Colleen Harnish of Millersville; a brother, David Parks of AZ; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Robert was preceded in death by three brothers, and one sister.
Memorial Services will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2009, from the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 10-11 AM.
