Obituary

Robert McLain, 91, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. Anne's Retirement Community in Columbia.

He was the husband of the late Nancy B. Snavely McLain, who passed away in 2005. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Frank X., Sr. and Mary Skiles McLain.

Robert had worked for the US Postal Service, beginning his career of over 30 years as a letter carrier and retiring in 1978, after serving as the Director of Mail Processing at the Lancaster branches. He was a member of the National Assn of Letter Carriers, and NARFE.

A World War II veteran of the US Navy, he served in the Pacific Theater on an LCI as a Motor Machinists Mate 2nd Class. He then served for 20 years in the Naval Reserves, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the Landing Craft Infantry Group where he served as the national secretary and was a Plankholder with the USS Missouri renovation project. He was a member of American Legion Post 34 and the VFW Post 7294 in Millersville.

Robert was an active member of the Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd, where he served on church council, the stewardship committee, the finance chairperson and the Senior Shepherds.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the West Lancaster Hunting Club.

He volunteered with the West Lancaster Fire Dept where he was a life member, and had driven ambulance for the West End Ambulance Assn. He was also a member of the Lancaster Micro Computer Users Group.

He is survived by his daughters: Cheryl J., married to Donald C. Youtz of Millersville, Marianne J. married to Steven J. Yeagley of Turbotville, and Debra E. McLain of Lancaster; his 4 grandchildren Steven J. Jr., Michele J. Heimbach (Shawn), Karen S. Youtz (Ken Wittington), and Craig R. Youtz (Megan); his 9 great grandchildren: Jordan, Drew, Noah, Logan, Gavyn, Sunshine, Linus, Bryson, and Lucy; and his great great grandchild, Mason. He is also survived by his siblings: Frank X., James, David,and Ruth Hall. He was preceded in death by his siblings Paul, Ted, and Richard.

Friends will received on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 12Noon-1PM at the Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601, with the Memorial Service to follow at 1PM. Interment will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Robert's memory to the building fund at the Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd at the above address.
