Obituary

Robert Howard Long, 92, of Lancaster, died Monday, January 5, 2015, at Lancashire Hall. Born in Brownstown, he was the son of the late Frank and Annie M. (Litch) Long. Bob's wife of 60 years Shirley M. Gerstly Long died in 2009.

Bob drove truck for RCA for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He coached baseball and football for the IBEW in the 1960's and 1970's. Bob enjoyed working outside and gardening. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

Bob served in the US Army in the Philippines as a Technician 5th Grade with Headquarters Battery 906th Field Artillery Battalion 81st Infantry Division during World War II.

Surviving Bob are his children, Robert H. Long, Jr., husband of Nettie, of Orlando, FL, Gail P. Long of Lancaster and Brian D. Long of Lancaster; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. His infant daughter Patricia A. Long and several siblings preceded Bob in death.

A Viewing will take place 10 to 11 AM Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA 17602, followed by the funeral at 11 AM, with Rev. Stephen P. Verkouw officiating. Interment in Riverview Burial Park. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Lancaster County Veterans Affairs, 150 N. Queen St., Ste. 103, Lancaster, PA 17603.
