Robert John "Bob" Thee, 80, of Lancaster, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 22, 2025.

Born in Iowa, Bob was the son of the late John and Evelyn Thee. He graduated from Tipton High School before attending Iowa State University, where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Vietnam conflict and served proudly with the 14th Infantry Division as a 12 Bravo Combat Engineer. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5).

After completing his military service, Bob went on to earn his Ph.D. at Columbia University. He began a rewarding career with South Dakota State Extension Services. He later moved to Pennsylvania, where he worked with Penn State Extension Services, dedicating many years of his career before retiring in 2012. He found his work rewarding and enjoyable. In retirement, Bob continued to share his love of history and teaching as a docent at Wheatland House in Lancaster.

Bob had a passion for travel and particularly enjoyed exploring Europe and tracing his family roots. He was a gentle, quiet man with a meticulous attention to detail and a deep love for his family, always cherishing the time spent with them, especially during Christmas gatherings.

He was a proud member of The Masonic Golden Rule Lodge #24 in Rochester, Iowa, and a devoted Iowa State University Cyclones fan.

Bob is survived by his siblings, Richard Wehde (Lois Jean), Ruel Wehde (Janet), Larry Wehde (Judy), and Cindy Hambright (Rich); his beloved aunt, Delores Phelps; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members in Donahue and Scott County, Iowa.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be served at the Tipton VFW, after which the family will proceed to Allens Grove Cemetery in Donahue, Iowa, for graveside services and burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Tipton Public Library, Friends of the Animals, or the Cedar County Historical Society.
