Robert E. Bemis, 74, of 333 Church St., Lancaster, died Monday at Lancashire Hall.

He was the husband of the late Sally Bemis, who died in 1964, and the late Helen Bemis, who died in 1991. Born in West Willow, Robert was the son of the late Milton H. and Clara Slicer Bemis.

He had worked in maintenance at Franklin and Marshall College for 6 years until the late 1980s. Prior to this, he had worked for Coca Cola of Lancaster and on the John Gingrich farm in Landisville.

He was the former president and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, enjoyed fishing, and was a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan. While living at the Church St. Towers, he was involved in many activities there, and was known for playing Santa Claus during the holiday season.

Robert is survived by a brother, Richard  married to Jessie Bemis of Lancaster, and two sisters: Dorothy  married to Raymond Wanner of Fleetwood, PA, and Hazel married to William Helms of Lancaster.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 10-11AM at the Charles Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, with funeral services to follow at 11AM.
