Robert F. Backes, Jr., 53, loving husband, father, and brother, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 after a bout with cancer.  Bob was born in Princeton, NJ to the late Emma Doris (Davison) and Robert F. Backes, Sr.

Bob served in the US Navy from 1979 to 1985, after which he worked in the grocery business in Virginia before moving to Lancaster to be closer to his family and taking a position with SKH.  Leaving SKH after 5 years, he went to work for Toys R' Us for 10 years.  In 2008, he opened his own business, Golf Etc. of Lancaster with his wife, Julie.

He is survived by his wife, Julie (McQueen); 3 children: Daniel (25) serving in the US Coast Guard, Ryan (17) and Emma (14); 5 siblings: Nancy Atland, Betsy Ryder, Peggy (Al) Brzowsky, Fred (Julia) Backes and James (Trish) Backes; and 9 nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed vacations at the beach, playing golf with his sons and brothers and watching Dallas Cowboys games with his family.
