Obituary

Rita D. Higgins Morris, 92, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at Fairmount Homes in Ephrata. She was the wife of the late Floyd H. Higgins and the late Denver D. Morris. Born in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Leah Metz Schneider. Rita was a loving wife and homemaker, having worked briefly at Schwalm Watch & CBS Toys. Many years ago, she and Floyd enjoyed bowling at Leisure and Lancaster Lanes. She was an accomplished sewer, having made many outfits for her granddaughters, Jackie and Missy, when they were young. She also enjoyed playing bingo and cards at Rodney Park Senior Center with her Happy Hearts friends. She also taught her great grandsons how to play kings-in-the-corner and attended Maple Grove Senior Center and the Lancaster Rec Center, participating in the Senior Games. She had been a lifetime member of Pearl Street United Methodist Church. Rita is survived by one sister, Dorothy Wentzel of Fisher, MN; one daughter, Sonja Govey wife of Jack, Winter Haven, FL; her granddaughters, Jackie Mathiot, wife of Jim, of Leola, and Melissa Price of Lancaster; her great grandchildren: Timothy Klopp of Lampeter, Justin Klopp (Mary) of San Antonio, TX and Joshua Mathiot of Leola; and by her great great grandchildren Kailey and James of Lampeter, and Matthew of Texas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Cumberland and Mt. Savage, MD areas. Besides her late husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Winnebrenner, four brothers: Eugene, Robert, Frederick and Donald Schneider and her daughter, Rita Carlene Higgins-Miller. Friends will be received on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM, the Revs. Debra Schreiber and Anne Marshall officiating. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Rita's memory to the Alzheimers Assn, South Central PA Chapter, 3544 N. Progress Ave, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110-9638.
