At the age of 65, after a lifetime of perfectly timed quips, half-finished home projects, and never quite catching that elusive Bambi, Rick Ruhl has passed away. He no longer has to endure another one of Liverpool's nail-biting games. A proud Marine Corps veteran, Rick lived life with the kind of dry wit that could silence a room or, more often, fill it with laughter. His passing marks the end of an era—one that was punctuated by his sharp humor, love for Liverpool FC, and dedication to faith, family, and friends.
Rick was once an avid hunter, spending many hours in the woods. Though he eventually traded his rifle for other pursuits, Bambi remains unscathed and is likely raising a glass in Rick's honor somewhere deep in the forest. As a die-hard Liverpool FC fan, Rick knew the taste of victory, the bitterness of defeat, and the unique frustration of another season ending with "next year" optimism. His love for the Reds was only rivaled by his unwavering commitment to his faith, family, and his lifelong passion for the Los Angeles Rams. Rick's allegiance to the Rams began in childhood, when he first laced up his cleats to play midget football for a team also called the Rams. From that early start, his love for the Rams endured through all the highs and lows of their seasons, and he remained a devoted fan throughout his life.
A devoted husband and father, Rick expertly managed the chaos of a household with his beloved wife and their two sons, teaching them the fine arts of sarcasm, wit, and how to laugh in the face of adversity. His faith guided him through life, and he's likely found his reserved seat in heaven, with a front-row view of whatever match happens to be on that day.His dry sense of humor was legendary, capable of reducing a room to laughter with nothing more than a well-timed remark or a perfectly executed eye-roll. He may be gone from our sight, but we can be sure he's found new ways to keep those around him entertained in heaven.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Julie K., whom he married on August 1st, 1982. He also has two twin sons, Joshua (wife Amanda), and Jason, and has six adored grandchildren. His sons will carry on his legacy of poorly executed dad jokes and laughter. His legacy of laughter, love, and a bit of cheeky wit will continue through them.
Rick's greatest joy was his family, especially being a fun-loving Pop-Pop to his six grandchildren: Asher, Madison, Daniel, Landon, Micah, and Hailey. Whether it was sharing a laugh, telling a story, or offering sage advice, he cherished every moment spent with them.
Rick had a knack for making connections wherever he went. It seemed no matter where he was, he always knew someone, and they always remembered him. When we were leaving the hospital after his passing, countless staff members came up to us, saying he was their favorite patient. One nurse shared, "When Rick was your patient, you knew you were going to have a good day." His sense of humor never failed to brighten a room—one of his favorite jokes was responding to the question "How do you feel?" with "With my hands."
A drop-by welcoming of the family and memorial service will be held at Charles Snyder Funeral Home& Crematory in Lititz, PA (3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543), on August 22nd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to come by, share a memory, offer their condolences, and spend a moment celebrating Rick's life.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization close to Rick's heart. He was heavily involved in the Brush Brigade in York County, PA, where he served as their unofficial official photographer, capturing the spirit of those who worked tirelessly to bring joy to children in need. As he always believed, making someone else's wish come true is the best kind of victory.
Rest easy, Rick. You'll never walk alone.
