Ricky Lee Szalay (Big Daddy), 60, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away, Friday, March 4, 2011 at Christiana Hospital, Delaware. Born March 10, 1950 in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late June C. (Troop) Szalay and the late Joseph L. Szalay. He was the husband of Elaine (Ripperger) Szalay to whom he was married on September 28, 1985.

Ricky was retired from Armstrong World Industries after 30 years of service. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears as well as an active member of the Hubley Social Club. He enjoyed his family, trailer at Holloway Beach in Charlestown, M.D., and his pet cats, Cuddles and Grayson.

Surviving in addition to his wife Elaine, is a brother, Ronald E. Troop of Lancaster. 2 sisters, twin, Cheryl M. Phelps wife of Rick, and Kimberly Szalay-Mowery, both of Lancaster. 3 nephews, 3 great nephews, and a great niece.

Friends may attend Ricky's celebration of life held at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory 3110 Lititz Pike Lititz, Pa 17543 Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 12 p.m. with Pastor Joseph Carrere Officiating. Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home before the service from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
